The spirit of Anzac, with it's qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. This Anzac day I will be at the 5.15am dawn service at Highfields Community Memorial (outside Highfields Cultural Centre) and then participating in the wreath laying ceremony at Mothers Memorial Toowoomba from 9am.

Also, Ted Egan AO will present his “Tribute to the Anzacs” at the Toowoomba Public Library on Friday 22nd April at 7.30pm.

“The Anzacs 100 Years on in Story and Song” portrays the unique history of the “Great War” for all ages, that combines poignant and personal stories with songs commemorating the courage and bravery of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers and nurses who served at Gallipoli, the Western Front and the Middle East and their families who supported them at the home front.

This presentation is a tribute to the heroism of ordinary people in a deplorable situation. It deepens our understanding of the war that so profoundly shaped the national psyches of these two emerging nations.
