The Crisafulli Government is strengthening opportunities for Queenslanders through its revitalised Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative, with $171,000 provided to Momentum Mental Health to support recovery and job readiness in Toowoomba.
The Creating Momentum program will help 40 participants gain new qualifications and workplace experience while also receiving dedicated mental health support.
Delivered in partnership with social enterprise Vanguard Laundry, the program offers a Certificate II in Skills for Vocational Pathways alongside hands-on training to prepare participants for long-term employment.
This investment is part of the Crisafulli Government’s broader plan to rebuild Queensland’s workforce, restore economic responsibility, and ensure every Queenslander can thrive, no matter their background or circumstances.
Assistant Minister to the Premier for Cabinet and Southwest Queensland, Member for Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts MP, said the initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to helping Queenslanders who face barriers to employment.
“When we invest in local services like Momentum Mental Health, we’re investing in the wellbeing, dignity, and future of our community,” Mr Watts said.
“This funding is a vital step in keeping services like Momentum Mental Health in our community and delivering real opportunities for people.”
Momentum Mental Health CEO Shirley-Anne Gardiner welcomed the funding, noting the importance of combining skills training with mental health recovery.
“This funding allows us to continue delivering programs that make a real difference in people’s lives,” Ms Gardiner said.
Momentum will partner with Aurora Training Institute and with Vanguard Laundry, who will deliver components of the Certificate II program.
“Through this collaboration, participants will not only have the opportunity to complete a free Certificate II qualification but, for those deemed suitable, also progress into a paid work placement with Vanguard Laundry—gaining real-world experience and a supported pathway into employment.” Ms Gardiner said.
