Alcohol and drug-related violence needs a comprehensive plan, not a one-size-fits-all nanny state approach that punishes the majority for the sins of a few. Labor’s continual backflips and bungles are no way to implement public policy that should focus on community safety and individual responsibility.
We’ll be a common sense government that listens, plans and acts to Build a Better Queensland. More government isn’t the answer to our problems – better government is.
In government, the LNP consulted with Queenslanders to develop Australia’s most comprehensive plan to tackle alcohol and drug-related violence – the Safe Night Out strategy. With more than 60 initiatives, we focused on changing the culture through greater education and awareness, punishing bad behaviour with more police and new laws and working together to achieve local solutions. What works in Cairns and Toowoomba doesn’t necessarily work in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast.
OUR REAL PLAN
A Tim Nicholls-led LNP Government will provide a no lockout law guarantee. We developed a plan based on consultation and local input and we will stick with that plan.
We will close the current loophole that exists for ID scanners, by requiring venues that trade after midnight to commence scanning patrons at midnight, rather than 10pm.
This is a common sense approach that focuses on community safety.
Our plan includes:
- Changing the culture so that everyone is responsible
- Ensuring bad behaviour won’t be tolerated, and
- Providing safe and supportive environments.
We want to ensure Queenslanders can enjoy a safe night out, because a safe night out is a great night out.
