PETITION DELIVERED!!!!
  • Highfields Cultural Precinct Master Plan
  • Petition delivered to TRC & State Government
  • Responsible and progressive planning needed for Highfields

Public submissions have now closed for the Toowoomba Regional Council’s Draft Highfields Cultural Precinct Master Plan.

Member for Toowoomba North, Trevor Watts said “over the past few weeks I have met and listened to the concerns of a massive number of Highfields residents in respect to the many worrying aspects of the Council’s draft master plan.”

“As your local Member I was asked to host a Petition to present to the Toowoomba Regional Council on behalf of a very proactive and concerned group of residents.

By working with the local community my office has been inundated with enquiries from thousands of people who have expressed their serious concerns over the impact of this plan.

This petition has now been presented to the Toowoomba Regional Council and I will be lobbying the State Government on behalf of everyone who has joined this petition to ensure that their voices are well and truly heard in City Hall and the State Parliament.

The unprecedented growth of Highfields needs responsible and progressive planning to ensure that this community’s unique lifestyle is protected and remains a safe and livable community.  Thousands of locals are concerned that Council’s plan to resume houses will rip the heart out of this community.

By listening to the community’s needs and working together we have ensured that the construction of the Highfields State Secondary College; the secondary school expansion of Mary Mackillop Catholic College; the expansion of the Highfields Ambulance Station from a call out station to a 24hr ambulance station and the construction of the Highfields Sport and Recreation Park sporting precinct have all been delivered to this fast growing community of Highfields.

No doubt there is still so much more to do and I will push to get construction underway for a full time police station at Highfields to meet the safety and security needs of this community.

I will keep listening, representing your concerns, delivering and fighting to make sure that the people of Toowoomba North get their fair share.

As your strong local voice, together we will continue to deliver the schools our children deserve, the emergency services we need and the roads and infrastructure we want.
