Labor fails to deliver maternity services

Devastating news for mums across Weipa and Cooktown, with confirmation today the Palaszczuk Labor Government doesn’t have a plan to re-open local maternity services.

Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli saw the full extent of the Queensland Health Crisis today, after he met and listened to residents, community leaders and health staff in Weipa and Bamaga.

“Listening to the stories of a health system in crisis has made me more determined to fight even harder for these Queenslanders,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Weipa and Cooktown maternity services remain closed despite desperate calls from local leaders and the community.

“Queensland mums should be able to give birth where, when and how they want but Labor closed down maternity services in these centres.

“It is disappointing to hear the Health Minister travelled to Far North Queensland but could not guarantee the future of these maternity wards.

“The chaos and crisis within the Labor Government is costing these communities.

“We need to stop the chaos and crisis and start delivering the maternity services these communities deserve.

“All Queenslanders deserve a world class health system no matter where they live.”

Mr Crisafulli said he would be raising the health failures in Bamaga in the Queensland Parliament.
