Regional Queensland receives $1.8 million events boost
The Newman Government has reaffirmed its commitment to regional events with a $1.8 million boost to 64 events throughout Queensland.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Jann Stuckey said the LNP Government was proud to continue investing in regional Queensland through its support of local events ranging from art and music carnivals to sporting events, cultural celebrations and gourmet food and wine festivals.
“Regional events play a vital role in supporting Queensland’s tourism industry and provide significant economic and social benefits to local communities.
“Getting behind events which attract visitors to Queensland’s regional areas reflects our determination to establish Queensland as Australia’s number one tourist destination and our 2020 goal to boost overnight visitor spending in Queensland to $30 billion,” Ms Stuckey said.
Events Queensland has created the most comprehensive portfolio of supported events of any state in Australia with more than $20 million invested through the EQRDP across 918 events since 2001.
Funding provided through the program can be used for a range of activities including marketing costs, strategic planning, engagement of specialised personnel and the hire of temporary infrastructure.
