Statement from LNP Attorney-General Ian Walker
- Suburban detention centres to house young criminals
“Annastacia Palaszczuk avoided another embarrassing defeat in State Parliament after the LNP forced her to reveal the locations of where she plans to build suburban detention centres to house young criminals.
“This is the second time in less than 24 hours the LNP has forced Annastacia Palaszczuk to come clean with Queenslanders.
“The LNP moved a motion in State Parliament tonight to force the Labor Government to reveal the location of these suburban detention centres.
“We think Queenslanders are absolutely entitled to know who is living next door to them, especially when it comes to these young criminals.
“It was the LNP that uncovered Labor’s sneaky plan to build suburban detention centres next to families – Queenslanders will be horrified at the thought of these young thugs possibly moving into the house next door.
“We understand one was earmarked for South Brisbane but that was kyboshed after Jackie Trad learnt of the plan – she didn’t want one in her patch.
“Labor’s sneaky plan is a knee-jerk reaction to their botched policy of moving 17-year-olds out of adult jails and into youth detention centres.
“People are sick to death of the approach taken by Annastacia Palaszczuk with regards to law and order and her inability to keep them safe.”
