The LNP has questioned the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s decision not to include any Toowoomba state schools in its air-conditioning funding announcement this week.
Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki said Labor’s snub to local students and teachers was disappointing.
“The Labor government has included some state schools around the Darling Downs and South Burnett but has left Toowoomba out again,” Mr Janetzki said.
“This follows the Palaszczuk Labor Government not considering Toowoomba as ‘regional’ for payroll tax relief, which was a massive kick in the guts for our drought-stricken region.
“The LNP’s policy is to air-condition every single state classroom in Queensland. Labor must match the LNP’s commitment and treat Toowoomba schools fairly.”
Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts said air-conditioned classrooms made a huge difference to students and teachers.
“Every parent knows that kids can’t learn properly in sweltering classrooms,” Mr Watts said.
“Cool kids are smart kids and that’s why the LNP will air-condition every state classroom in Toowoomba and the rest of the state.
“The LNP has made air-conditioning all state schools a priority and that pressure has forced Labor to act.
“But as usual, Labor’s response is too little, too late. The LNP won’t play politics with our kids’ education.
“Only an LNP Government will guarantee air-conditioning in every state school and Toowoomba and ensure our kids don’t have to swelter through summer.”
